Usages: French, Dutch, Popular CultureMeaning: Originally a French diminutive of Émilie, this name is now generally considered a contraction of the hyphenated name Marie-Louise. Milou (known as "Snowy" in English) is also the name of the (male) dog in the classic Belgian cartoon series Les Aventures de Tintin et Milou (The Adventures of Tintin in English). How this dog got its name is still a subject of debate: some argue that Milou was the nickname of Marie-Louise Van Cutsem, a childhood friend of the cartoonist Hergé's, while others point out that Milou also used to be a diminutive of Émile.Notes: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milou(Information from name #12044 originally submitted by user Lucille)
