Mikel is also the oldest Georgian form of Michael: it dates back to at least the 8th century AD. It has since fallen out of use in favour of the more recent მიხეილ (Mikheil), which was likely influenced by the Russian name Михаил (Mikhail) and therefore likely came into existence during the nearly two centuries that Georgia was under direct Russian rule (from 1801 to 1918 and then from 1921 to 1991).
Notable Georgian bearers of the name include the Catholicos Mikel II of Caucasian Iberia (8th century AD), the saint Mikel Parekheli (thought to have lived somewhere between the 6th and 9th century AD) and the poet Mikel Pataridze (1895-1959).
Last but certainly not least: Mikel is written as მიქელ in Georgian. The nominative case form of the name is მიქელი (Mikeli).

I'm female and this is my name. It's pronounced like 'Mik-elle' but is still spelled 'Mikel'.
