In French, Miette is a diminutive of "Mie," which is itself a diminutive of "Marie." Cited by Pierre Enckell in his “Répertoire des prénoms familiers” (2000) as being written “Mïette” (with trema).
My name is Miette! My parents chose it from City Of The Lost Children. However, I've done a lot of research on it and I've only found the etymology of "Pan de mie"+"-ette", or the sweet inside of bread with the suffix "small". Small bread or crumb. I've never heard of Miette as a diminutive of Marguerite.
