Wilhelmina Moussault-Ruys (1904 – 1999), known as Mien Ruys, was a Dutch landscape and garden architect. Her gardening legacy is maintained in the Dutch town of Dedemsvaart, which is home to the Tuinen Mien Ruys. With people such as Piet Oudolf, she is considered a leader in the "New Perennial Movement."
Mien van Wulfften Palthe (née Broese van Groenou; 1875 – 1960) was a Dutch feminist and pacifist. As a member of the Vereeniging voor Vrouwenkiesrecht (Society for Women's Suffrage) and Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, she strove to secure enfranchisement for women and worked as an advocate for peace.
Mien is a short form of Wilhelmina (just like e.g. Mina would be), not a diminutive. If it were a diminutive, it would have a diminutive suffix like -ke or -tje or -ie at the end. [noted -ed]
