Messiah is definitely a very unique name. Although I do think it would be a lot to carry (especially for a child), I don't think it's impossible. Also, as a Christian, I do believe that as a title, “Messiah” should be reserved for Jesus. However, as a given name, I don't think it's necessarily wrong or a bad thing. I don't think it's blasphemous. I think it's the heart's intentions that matter. In other words, I think that most parents who name their child Messiah do so in honor of God. If that's the case, God reads the heart, so He would know that the intention was good-willed. I, personally, don't think I would give the name Messiah to my child. However, I don't think it deserves the ridicule or criticism that it has received (specifically on this site).
Nope. This is like naming your kid Savior, or Superhero. We get it, we know you love your kid and think he’s perfect, but there are better glorifying names (that are also not King or Sir).

Can't imagine naming a kid Messiah, it's so presumptuous. Naming your child after religious figures like Moses, Jesus or Mohammed I can understand, since they are admirable figures with real names. But Messiah is just a word. Like we get it- you think your kid is special, but so do all parents. In reality only a very small amount of people are truly special and their names are not the defining factor.

Portuguese form is Messias (pron. May-SEE-ahs). Rarely used as a given name (Brazil). [noted -ed]
