I think this name is really modern and unique, and not just because it's my own. It is for sure a unisex name, and I would 100% name my child this. I would be a great parent.
I love this name, personally. I think it's beautiful and unique. It's unisex, in my opinion. I really love the meaning. I think it would be an especially cute name for a Boy/Girl Scout's kid.
God bless.
I like it visually and aurally. Unfortunately, it was the brand of cigarettes my father smoked when I was a child, so I can't disconnect it from that. I don't think they even make them anymore, so it probably wouldn't be an association for very many people these days. I'm sure if I knew someone named Merit well, it would replace that connotation.
If you named your child this, he would probably get all the Merit points in school and have a girlfriend called Scholastica. Totally pompous.
It sounds ugly as a name, especially when given in reference to the English word.
Merit is also a Danish and Swedish female name. It is a variant of Merete (Margarete). [noted -ed]
"merit / meryt" also means "beloved" in Ancient Egyptian. The male form was meri / mery.
