Similar to Miraude, the name of the most beautiful maiden in the world in the c. 1280 Dutch romance 'Torec' by Jacob van Maerlant. Miraude agreed to marry Sir Torec if he would defeat all the Knights of the Round Table, which he did (except for Arthur).

In my name book, this is what it says about the name Meraud: it is often assumed that the name is derived from "Emerald", but others suggest that it is more likely to have evolved from an earlier Celtic name, perhaps based on "mur" (the sea). Confined largely to Cornwall, where records of it go back to the 13th century. :)
