I’m a music major, and I love this name. It’s got such a sweet, wholesome vibe to it. In my top 5 for girls, easily. I would rate it just slightly above Harmony due to having a more natural nickname, “Mel”.
Oh my god, I love this name! I am a HUGE fan of music and this name reminds me of just that… I picture an elegant, pretty girl when I think of this name. It’s easy to pronounce and has a beautiful origin and meaning and can stick with you through adulthood. Definitely recommend!
Just like melodies in music this name has such a beautiful flow to it and just rolls off the tongue. This name is very soft and feminine. It is unique but somehow familiar at the same time. I see this name on a very beautiful woman.

Absolutely GORGEOUS - plus the banner and association with music!
I often feel quite ambivalent about word names, because I think they must be quite difficult to bear, especially as first names. I mean, I'd imagine people would be tempted to make constant puns involving your name or stuff like that. But at the same time, some of them can be really nice and interesting and I can totally see that they would appeal to parents as names. And, overall, I really like Melody. It has a nice meaning, a beautiful, melodious sound, and it actually does sound like a real name, unlike many other modern word names, think Lyric, because it sounds sort of like a smoosh between Melissa and ELodie or something like that. Actually, speaking of Elodie I guess I like the Melodie spelling even more. It can have a lot of fun nicknames and I think it can also age fairly well. Maybe not as well as the real classic names, but I don't really have a problem imagining either a kid, or a teen, or an adult woman, or an elderly lady named Melody. I think it's also more bearable for the person and less in-your-face sort of than, say, harmony or Cadence, but perhaps that's just my subjective feeling. If I were to use it on a real life person though, I'd much rather use it as a middle name, particularly one of several middle names, because I think word names work much better as middle names than first names. It would be less potentially cumbersome in daily life, and could work as a sort of pet name.
Melody is most definitely not a Polish name, and neither does it have a Polish equivalent because word names are not much of a thing here and until not long ago there were naming laws in place here restricting the use of words as names. Still, last year (2021), 7 baby girls in Poland were named Melody, and 4 were given it as their middle name. In total, there are 109 bearers of this name in Poland. A Polish Melody could go by such nicknames as Mela, Melka, Melunia, Melusia, Didi, Lodzia, perhaps even Melodyjka which means a little Melody in Polish.

Not into the musical type of names but Melody is an exception.
Melody is a very musical name. I’ve known 2 Melodys and they were pretty annoying. I wouldn’t choose it. There are prettier names out there in my opinion.

I love this name, it's very sweet and cute. MelMel or Mel is a nice nickname.
This is what YouTuber LaurenZSide named her new daughter! Her birthday is 5/7/2021 and we have not seen her yet, but I am sure she will be beautiful just like her two parents ♥️.
Cute, I think it's pretty and you can come up with quite adorable nicknames like Mell, Melly or Dee-Dee, although I think the name is pretty enough that nicknames are not necessary. I don't know, I imagine a sweet and happy girl. Also, if you prefer, there is also the Spanish version, which is Melodía. Also super cute.
I despise this name. It’s not pretty at all. I might be the only one who hates this name though.

My name is Melody. I've always liked it because it's rare. Ironically, I wasn't named Melody for the name itself. I was kind of named after my mother's sister. Her name is Mary Lou O'Donnell. My mother used her initials, MLOD, thus, MELODY!
I think it's perfect for music-loving parents to name their daughter Melody. She will definitely be a star. I'm totally not jealous.NICKNAMES: Melo, Mellie, Mel, Didi, Marshmelo, Yellow Mellow, Yellow Melon, Melmie, Meowmie (for cat lovers), Mel Mel, Bell Bell, Mella, Melon, Sing Song, Melibooboo, Meliboo, Melipoo, M' lady, Melody of Love, Lovely, Melodia, Meloidia, Meloz, Celine Dion the second (any melodic singer is fine).
My name is Melody and my older sister's name is Harmony and we have ALWAYS gotten compliments on our names. Especially when we mention each other's names. I didn't know people hated my name as much as I just read in these comments. Lol. People are on here calling the name a name for an old lady, ugly, unpleasant, childish. Sheesh. Calm down Karen, it's okay that your mom was basic. We aren't mad at you, it isn't your fault. Lol. But seriously, I love my and my sisters name, I can't imagine us being named anything else. People always tell us the names are elegant and beautiful. I've never had one single person say they don't like the names, so I guess that outweighs all the nasty comments I have read here. If you need to relax, turn on a song with a beautiful Melody and I'm sure you'll feel just fine by the time the song is over. :)
Not a fan at all. For a 60+ year old maybe, not for a poor child.

I love the name Melody. To my surprise - a very pleasant one, since I like names with an established history of use behind them - I found (via a well-known genealogy site) that in England it has been used for girls since at least the 1780s. I looked at facsimiles of the baptisms to make sure. I suspect that it may have been used in the Middle Ages too, but its 18th century and onwards usage seems to militate against the charge that it is "tacky". I also found, on that same site, a Melody Ann Padwick baptised in 1788, daughter of a father named Edward and a mother also named Melody (her first name, not her birth surname). But I couldn't confirm that the record had been properly transcribed since no facsimile was available.
Very, very pretty name I love this name- it's one of my favorites!

Melody to me is the most beautiful name I can think of! Fit for a Queen! If you weren't calling her Queen Melody, you could say Ma'lady. Such a beautiful name!
I think you need to be at least slightly privileged people to even know the meaning of the name Melody and if they have parents who care enough to at least buy a dictionary but most people are privileged enough to learn about the name in music class or during music lessons, if they ever learn the word meaning to this name.

If a person does not know the name definition of the word Melody as a name they do not have a dictionary, internet, never watched Disney Channel movies like Little Mermnaid movies, never had music class or band class, never had music paid for by parents as a gift to most children middle class to rich as a status gift to help them look more rounded and be more fun and skilled because they can do more things and more likely to make friends.
I’m absolutely in love with this name, and I feel blessed for having it.

My name is Melody, and YES it is SO annoying if people call me Melanie. SERIOUSLY PEEPS! IT'S MELODY and WOW I didn't know SO MANY people were named Melody (I thought I was UNIQUE) and my SASSY BFF calls me "Mel-Mel" every now and then.

My name is Melody Jane Savage, and I love music, I always say MeloDy, when people call me Melanie, it's a totally different name guys! Haha, I like my name, I think I'd rather people call me Melody not Mel, because I was named Melody after all. I have met four other Melody's in my life, two of which were therapists of mine haha can you believe that?! And once I was picking blueberries in the same blueberry field as another family's daughter who I heard was named Melody. When I picture the word "Melody" I see a 'little Me' running and bopping around in a bright colored field.
This name is very feminine, sometimes I think too feminine, sometimes I think just beautifully feminine. I prefer Melanie, as I like the nickname Mel, and also Harmony. I think Melanie, Mel and Harmony sound stronger and slightly more tomboy, while still definitely being feminine names.
My name is Melody. My nicknames are Mel, Memel, and Mellow Yellow.

I think Melody is a beautiful, feminine name and I've known quite a few people with that name. I also love the name Melanie and have seen it spelled Melony as well.

My name is Melody Joy. I didn't use to like my name because everybody pronounced it wrong or spelled it wrong. I also didn't like the nickname Mel because it reminded me of marshmallows so I thought it would be like people calling me a marshmallow. I love my name now and I also enjoy being called Mel. I think you just have to get used to being called this name.

Melody is a character from a Pokemon movie, she lives on an island and is the virgin of the festival that plays ocarina to summon a legendary deity.
My name is Melody Ann. I love the name but I would rather be named Sky. So... The only reason I went here was to see what people thought of my name. I read so many nice comments. So, please don't make fun of me for my name!
In 2018, 50 is the most common age for an American (U.S.) Melody who is registered female with the Social Security Administration. It is the 613th most common female first name for living U.S. citizens.

My name is Melody and I've always been complimented on my name since I was a child (i'm French and it's spelled with an Y, people usually make the mistake and put IE at the end but anyway...) now I'm 20 and I kind of think it's a bit childish, even though I love music and also play guitar. People always say things like "oh your name fits you so well" and it's getting boring. Also I think it makes me look like a cute, soft, harmless little girl. I might be a bit harsh, my parents are really proud of the name they gave me but I wish it was something less... special? Maybe? It's just a name but when it has a real meaning, it can be hard to carry.
I honestly hate this name SO MUCH. I personally don't find "M" names to be elegant and find them quite tacky, but especially this one. The name "Melody" is extremely tacky, sissy and pretentious and honestly very common and childish. I know at least 10 Melodys, excluding famous people who bear that name if there even are any. It is very common, and I find that it often promotes job discrimination as well. I feel that it is outdated and old-fashioned as well, and not to mention it sounds like a lot of other names, namely "Melanie" and "Nelly".Overall sissy is an immature a name. No offense to anyone who bears it.
I think Melody is beautiful, it rolls off the tongue so easily and sounds great with most middle names. I've been contemplating this name for a future daughter because of my grandfather, I always remember him singing, and he had a handsome voice. I figured Melody, since it literally means "song", would be a nice tribute to my grandpa. I really love the combinations Melody Anna and Melody Susannah.
My name is Melody and I honestly love my name. I always felt unique in school being the only Melody until I heard that other girls have the same name, but it's still special. My dad named me Melody because he loves music and is a DJ himself. My middle name is even more unique, it's Junarsy. It comes from my grandfather named Juan who sadly passed away the year I was born. Anyway, I believe that any child will be so special having the name Melody it's just not a common name, and the nickname Mel or Mellie are just so cute.Just something to say, I hate it when people mix up my name with Melanie - I don't even bother correcting them anymore.
My name is Melody Ann and I love it. My mother, whose name is Marilyn, had a friend in Germany named Melody in the late 70's and she thought it was a beautiful name. I am usually called Mel by family and friends, MelMel by children, Aunt Mel by my niece and nephews, and Melly Mel by a couple of coworkers. I love music and I played the clarinet in junior high school. Melody is not a common name and I love that, besides my unique and quirky personality, I have an uncommon name. I, like many others, have been called Melanie, which ticks me off.
When your name is Melody you get nick names like Mel, Mel Mel, Melo, Song, T-Bone, Harmony or they do not say your name at all. People say it is a beautiful name because it means song or the main part in music.

My name is Melody. I've always "loved" my name. I was named after the song, "Melody of Love" by Al Martino. A late 50's/60's song. The song is so beautiful! My Momma would sing this song to me, even as an adult. We would talk on the phone and she'd sing "Melody Of Love" to me. We lived almost 2,000 miles apart. RIP, I MISS YOU MOMMA and thank you for naming me Melody. Oh and Thank You Al Martino! = )
Melody (stylized Melody.) is an American-born former Japanese pop singer and television host. She debuted in February 2003 with the song "Dreamin' Away", under Toy's Factory. In October 2008, Melody announced on her blog she was ending her career as a music artist to focus on pursuing a career as a fashion designer.
I named my daughter Melody June. She loves her name. We often call her Mellie or Mellie-June. She is a gymnast and swimmer. Her teammates usually call her Mel. She is a kind, gentle person, but also a kick-butt athlete, so the versatility of the name is great.
I LOVE this name so very much. I've always loved and will definitely consider using it if I have a baby girl some day. I've met one girl named Melody and she went by Mel but I've always thought the nickname Maddy/Mady/Maddie would work as well. I LOVE the name Maddie but I don't like Madison or Madeline and I don't want to use Maddie as a legal first name because that won't age well. So I think Melody is perfect. I love it SO much!
I love the name Melody. My favorite combinations are Melody Renee, Melody Anne and Melody Rose. It is very nice and overall is easy to spell. I don't like that people assume that when others want to use this name that means you're musical. Like if I use the name Jason, does that mean that I am a doctor? It's a name, that doesn't show the parent or person's interest. It's just very light and a multiple of girls can have this name, wither she's a tomboy who goes by Mel, a hipster, an artist, a lawyer and just a different variety of girls I can imagine having this name. Which is rare, so that's why I suggest this and personally most likely want to name my kid Melody, if it turns out I would have a girl in the very distant future.
#Warning-spoilers darling if you are a fan of Doctor Who, the critically acclaimed show in the UK. Melody Pond, daughter of Amy Pond and Rory Williams. She is the wife of the Doctor, and is a time traveler who for the most part is known for her nickname River Song. She's a strong and fierce character who's not afraid to fight. Melody Pond is an amazing namesake and is a reason why I want to name my daughter Melody. Naming your daughter Melody doesn't always have to be about loving music. It can also be about science and fandom.
I love my name. In my 50 years, I've only known two others with it. It has not impeded my career. When people call me Melanie, I always say I already have two knees. I often say it's Melody like music. I get Melodious at times. Only special people get to call me Mel. Don't name your kid Melody. I like the fact that there are so few of us.
My name is Melody Renee, and I positively love my name. I think it's feminine and classy. I also have musical tendencies, so it's even better. :) I DO get called Melanie A LOT and I've come to strongly dislike that name. There are dumb nicknames for Melody, sadly, though usually I'm just Mel.
My name is Melody Elizabeth and I am in love with my name ❤.

My youngest daughter is named Melody! She loves music and even sings at the age of 2! :) She has an older sister named Cadence!! I wanted them to be connected in a way! We usually call her Melly for short!
My name is Melody Kay and I have never had a negative comment about it. People do have a tendency to sing it at me. Kudos to them for trying to be melodic. My British neighbors used to call me Melodious. And a lot of people come up with interesting nicknames, but Mel is the most common. Whatever your name is it was a gift from your parents and was the first way they showed how much they loved you so embrace it. They found you and your name to be beautiful.
My Melody is a fictional character created by Sanrio.

I named my daughter Melody. She always tells me she loves her name and she's happy it's unique. I work in an elementary school, and I have yet to meet another Melody in the 10 years I've been in education. She is not musically inclined, and is even a little on the tom-boy side, and I think it's an interesting contrast to her personality.Everyone that meets her always comments on her name in a positive way. She has many nicknames, Mel being the most common, and Melly being another one.

I think the name either suits you or it doesn't. It can be very beautiful and feminine, and therefore might not be a name that is taken seriously in the work place. To Be Honest, since I started going by Mel on my resume I've gotten a lot more calls back from employers. By the way, I'm also a musician and a singer - I go by Melody on my CD covers.
I love the name Melody and not because I'm musical in the slightest. I love the way it sounds and how easily it rolls off the tongue. I called my daughter Melody-Rose and I think it's such a beautiful name. It suits her very well. People will always find something to have a dig about whether it be your name, appearance or style which is why it's important to raise strong minded and well grounded little people, regardless of their name. Kudos to all the Melody's.
Melody is the name of Ariel & Eric's daughter in The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea. It's also the name of the ditzy drummer on Josie and the Pussycats. Melody is also a character on Easy A.
My name is Melody. I love my name! I do love music and singing, although I am not gifted by any stretch haha. People do often initially call me Melanie. I also often am complimented on my name. Happy to be a Melody, happy to be me : )
My very best friend that I have known since kindergarten is named Melody, and her middle name is Bunny. I think that it is really pretty, and extremely elegant. Melody has A LOT of nicknames though. She is one of the only Melodys I know, could be the only one, actually!
Its a beautiful name. My best friend has this name and she's known as "Mel" which I think is a very pretty nickname. I don't see why so many people dislike it, it's a lot better then a common name such as Kate or Jessie.
My name is Melody Yvonne and I'm very proud of the name, and it is a beautiful unique name.

I am cursed with this name and it is absolutely disgusting. It's extremely tacky, obnoxious, and pretentious. The people saying it's so 'adorable' and 'sweet' and 'perfect' should try going through life with a name like 'Melody Grace' (my last name is a virtue, as well) when you're not particularly musically inclined and you're hopelessly clumsy. I won't even go into the variety of hateful nicknames I got throughout elementary, middle, and high school. The teasing still hasn't stopped and I'm nearly an adult.THANK YOU to the people insulting it by calling it sappy, childish, horrid, etc. Hopefully we are saving potential 'Melody's' from getting stuck with this atrocity. It's a TERRIBLE, disgusting, horrendous choice for a girl and I've made it my mission to warn parents against using it. I still can't forgive my mother for plaguing me with it, although she couldn't care less. I have been tormented throughout my entire life because of it, not to mention NO ONE knows what I say when I first introduce myself. "Oh hi, Melanie!" "Hey there, Nellie!" or even "Nice to meet you, Emily!"DON'T USE IT.

To the person above who doesn't like her name: I'm sorry you have had such a horrible experience with it. :( Seems like there are quite a few Melodys who commented who like their name, though, so I wouldn't discourage parents from using it. Personally, I love this name, though I may be biased since I do love music. I don't think it sounds pretentious at all and I prefer it to other musical names. How can a name sound pretentious anyway? It's just a name. I would use it but my husband isn't a fan probably due to some Melody's he knew. I also like Melody-Anne as someone suggested above.

This is a very pretty name. I have an aunt named Melodie- pronounced MEL-ah-dee- and her middle name is Anne; Melodie Anne sounds great together. We call her Mel for the most part though.
I've met many Melody's, so this name seems very overused to me. It seems more like a word than a name. Also, how horrible would it be to name your daughters Melody and Harmony?

In high school I knew a girl named Melodie. She had a feisty, tom-boyish personality. I thought it was a fun contrast to her very feminine, sort-of-sugary name.

I really like the name Melody. I think the different spellings (as talked about in the posts above) are a little tacky. This name is good in its original spelling (hopefully it IS the original spelling). Oh, and I LOVE that whole double-name thing! It’s so awesome!
My name is Melody Angela and I love it. I love the meanings combined. I used to not like it much when I was little but after I realized it wasn't very common I loved it. It makes me feel unique. I don't particularly like it with "Ann" because Ann is a very common second name but I love my name with "Rose".
I have to say, I think Melody is a very pretty name. Slightly 1980s, in my mind, but that's not an issue for me. But even though the name Melanie has received some "hate", I guess, in the above posts, I don't have a problem with Melanie, either. (Though I must say, I'm not a fan of Melissa.) Maybe that's why I prefer the spelling Melodie--it looks less like a "word", if you know what I mean.

Although I love music so much Melody doesn't appeal to me. For some reason it comes off to me as tacky. no offense or anything. It does sound too much like Melanie too.
My name is Melody and I've always gotten a lot of compliments on it. Though beware, some people (usually idiots) will mispronounce your kid's name, if you desire to name them this, and call them "Melanie", which is a most atrocious name.
My name is Melody Rose, I have always liked this combination of names because it is unique without being bizarre.

Love this name, sounds beautiful, kinda hippie-ish but in a good way. My friend wants to name her daughter Melody Rose which, I think, is a gorgeous combination.
I like the spelling Melody. Melodi and Melodie are kinda nice too. Could be paired with Melanie for twins or something. Although some may look at matching names to be silly.
It sounds quite tacky and sappy, and it isn't really one of those names that protects you from job discrimination. It would be quite funny if Melody turned out to be tone-deaf and bad at both singing and playing instruments.
My first name is Melody and my middle name is Rose. I happen to be one of the non-musical Melodys that you spoke about in your post. I am perfectly happy with my name and I do not feel that I miss any career opportunities based on my name. In fact, I enjoy having a "unique" name, and urge others to name their children names that create a character instead of merely hinting at an identity.

Melody is a really nice name. It's a sweet name for a cute little girl but it can transform easily and ages well to fit an interesting woman.
This is the middle name of Johnny Depp's daughter, Lily Rose. It's also the name of Ariel's daughter in the direct-to-video sequel to "The Little Mermaid."

Melody was my fav name when I was about 13. I still adore it and could see myself using it but probably as a middle name (I have too many favourites :p)
Melody is a singer's name off of the Pussy Cat Dolls and she sings very well. The other girls' names in this AWESOME AND COOL-O-MUNGUS group are Ashley, Nicole, Carmit, Jessica, and Kimberly. I love their group and their songs! I have a friend named Taila (TY-LA) AND HER mother's name is Melody. Very nice name! :0

My mum named me 'Melody' because she hopes that I will grow up to be musically inclined. It's quite a unique name - you don't find many people with this name. But overall, it's a pretty name for a girl. =)
It's a beautiful name. It's talented and glamorous. I'll call my daughter Melody, but I'm hyphenating it with Anne. It's a very pretty combination, Melody-Anne.
Melody can also be pronounced Mel-oh-dee. I've seen it spelled Meladee before. I don't think it looks very good. Melodie doesn't look too bad... I'd just stick with the spelling Melody.
