In (modern) French this would likely be pronounced me-li-ZAHND (I can't do the superscript for the N, but imagine the N elevated and tiny because it's barely said).
Melisende is such a beautiful, enchanting, ethereal name! I absoloutely love it. It has such a regal, medieval feel (which makes sense as there was a medieval queen with the same name :P) I like it much more than Millicent (probably because I knew a horrible girl in highschool named Millicent). I also love it's obscure variant, of which it has many, Melisantia (mel-is-AHN-tee-a).
Melisende lived from 1105 - 1161 A.D. Melisende was the oldest of the 4 daughters of Baldwin II and became Queen of the Kingdom of Jerusalem after her father's death. When Melisende died, the historian William of Tyre wrote a eulogy that read in part, "Striving to emulate the glory of the best princes, Melisende ruled the kingdom with such ability that she was rightly considered to have equaled her predecessors."
