On its own, I think Mele (MEH-leh or MAY-lay, really depends on your accent how you pronounce it) is a cool name; although in English it's strikingly similar to melee, a borrowed word from French (mêlée) referring to either close-range combat or a confused mess of people.
I'd never given much thought to this name though I've always considered it quite nice, but recently it's been growing on me. I usually tend to prefer longer, more elaborate names, but despite being short, I think Mele is not only a really sweet name that would probably age quite well, but it also has a lot of substance to it. I like its warm, kind of chilled out vibe and I like the musical meaning. I think it could make a lovely, fresher alternative for Mary, especially in the middle name spot and especially if someone has some actual connections to languages/cultures where this name is used.
It's a nice name and easy to say/ use. I think Americans are too used to long complicated names. My name could be spelled shorter but isn't and it bugged me. I like this name and suggested it for my niece but they went with another name that was equally short.
It's beautiful. Song is also a pretty meaning. I prefer that usage to Mary though both are nice.

I really like this name as a middle name for Nalani. Too bad I'm Irish, I could never get away with that, I'm WAY too pale.

The Hawaiian way to pronounce this name is MEL-eh. It would probably be most commonly pronounced as MEL-ay, which is hardly different, but this name is beautiful when it is pronounced correctly.

This is my friend's mum's name, and we all pronounce it MEL-ee. Not sure if this is the correct pronunciation or not.
