Meaning & History
The first element of this name is derived from the Greek adjective μέγιστος (megistos) meaning "biggest, largest, greatest" (see Megistos). The second element is derived from either the Greek verb ἀγορεύω (agoreuo) meaning "to orate, to speak publicly" or the Greek noun ἀγορά (agora), which can mean "assembly" as well as "market, marketplace".This was the name of a Greek magistrate from the city of Cyme in Aeolis, who lived around 350-250 BC.
