Marylou Dawes (1933 – 2013; or Mary Lou Dawes), was a Canadian concert pianist. She was one of Canada's leading accompanists, chamber musicians and soloists.
I know a Marylou who pronounces it as MAR-ee-lou, with the emphasis on the first syllable instead of the last.

Terrible name (at least to name a girl in this day and age)! Sounds like it would be the name of an annoying little girl in an old-fashioned cartoon, no offense to anyone who has this name.

I positively LOATHE this name, mostly because I have a relative with this name. The only way I would name my child this is to honor the song Hello Mary-Lou Goodbye Heart. Queen performed this song live at Wembley stadium in '87.
Most people think of Mary Lou as a old fashioned, but I know a sweet 8 year old girl who goes by the name Mary Lou. If you say it enough times in your head it will sound truly beautiful!

I hate this name, it sounds so ugly and bad. I don't know what my parents were thinking when they named me Mary Lou.
Mary-Lou (played by Candy Clark) is the lead female character in the film "The Man Who Fell to Earth," and Thomas Jerome Newton's (played by David Bowie) lover. In the novel, the character's name is Betty-Jo, and she is only his housekeeper.
