My cousin Marshall goes by the nickname Marty. And my other cousin Martin also goes by the nickname Marty. And my Aunt Martha also goes by the nickname Marti. It gets kind of confusing during family parties. But I do like the name; I think it sounds friendly and down-to-earth.
I like Marty. I think it would sound adorable on a little boy :) If I have a second son, I'm going to call him Martin. Maybe I'll use Marty as a nickname.

Marty Maraschino from the musical Grease. The sexpot, wannabe sophisticated darling portrayed by Dinah Manoff in the 1978 film version alongside Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta.
This was the name of the title character in the 1955 film "Marty", Marty Piletti. In the film, Marty Piletti was portrayed by Ernest Borgnine, who won the Academy Award for Best Actor for the role. The film was also successful, winning 4 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
My name is Marty, it isn't short for Martin. My name is one of the most individual names of the time. People I know call me Mart, for short. And it was my dad's name who died when I was little.
My mom spells it Marti, with an 'i' and uses it as a short form of Martha because she didn't like getting teased growing up about being Martha Washington.
