Gender Masculine
Meaning & History
Possibly a combination of the name element mar from names like Martin and Marcus (or from Old Norse marr "sea, ocean") and Old Norse leikr "play, game". It has never been widely used in Norway, occurring only a handful of times. Marleik is the Norwegian word for a disc-shaped calcium carbonate concretion. But in that case, the word is composed of mare "mare" (as in "nightmare") and lek "play, game".
