My mother was named Margaret although I much prefer Marguerite which has a lighter feel to it. The nickname Daisy is an adorable name whether used as a nickname for Marguerite or all by itself. After reading an earlier comment regarding its origins, I Googled the origin of the name. According to AI, a French Marguerite, a plaquerette and an ox-eye are all different types of daisy belonging to different species and having distinct characteristics. Also, plaquerette isn't a standard name for daisy (more of a regional one). Interesting.
Marguerite doesn't mean "daisy" in French. A Marguerite is bigger than a daisy. The French word for daisy is "pâquerette". [noted -ed]
I got this off of an online French dictionary: "Marguerite Noun, feminine (a) Marguerite, (oxeye) daisy;"I had heard that Daisy was a nickname for Margaret. This explains how that happened.
Marguerite also means "daisy" in French.
