In Ancient Latin, this name was pronounced "mar-KEHL-la", or for my fellow language nerds out there, [mäːrˈkɛlːʲä] [noted -ed]

My grandma is Marcella. She goes by Marcy. I will name my first daughter after her. She is such a strong & godly woman, I can't not name my baby after her.

Marcella is also Hungarian. The name day for Marcella in Hungary is January 31.
St. Marcella was a highly-educated, widowed Roman noblewoman in the time of the early Church. St. Jerome, the brilliant but curmudgeonly translator of the Bible into Latin, was one of the Christians who lived in her spacious urban home when in need of housing. The story goes that he would check his Greek grammar knowledge against hers, and that she would constantly ask him theological questions in the manner of Socratic dialogue. Only she could snap Jerome out of his crankiness - she wouldn’t take no for an answer. When she died a martyr, Jerome penned a beautiful letter extolling her virtues in both life and death.
My name is Marcella and I tell people that and they say it's really rare. The name Marcella means young warrior and I believe in God so instead of young warrior I say I am a prayer warrior.
Marcella... my sister is only mean when you mess with her family. Especially her kids or her little sister. Other than that she is very strong and really thoughtful and introspective. Likes things quiet and does not like being in the crowds.Nothing mean about that.Mom was the only person in her group of friends from high school that actually named their daughter what they said they were going to... she liked Marcella and stuck with it.Marcie hasn't changed it in 48 years so she can't dislike it that badly.
I named my daughter Marchella. Added the "h" to make sure English speakers pronounced it "ch" as the Italians do. No nicknames like Marcy, Cella though. Straight Marchella or Chella Bella only, please.
The name Marcella doesn't seem to be very popular anymore. It was only given to 166 baby girls born in the US in 2012. I'm not sure why, it's a pretty name.
I was named Marcella after my great grandma. I was mostly referred to as Marcy, but also Celly, Cella, Marce. Now that I am in my 30s I go by Marcella a lot. I have gotten a lot of compliments when I tell people my name. As for someone thinking it sounds like the name of someone mean, well all I know is my great grandma was one of the sweetest people I have ever known. And I don't see myself as mean. But maybe we just are different from the rest lol.

I like the nickname Cella for Marcella. I know someone who's called that.
A mean person? I highly disagree. I think Marcella sounds exotic and very beautiful. Different and uncommon too, which is always a good thing. Definitely a good feminine name to consider.
Actually, I am an English speaker, live in the United States, and pronounce the lovely name Marcella as mar-CHELL-la as well. I am not even Italian, either. *shrug* It sounds prettier that way.
