Malena Ernman is a Swedish singer who represented her country in 2009 Eurovision with the song "La Voix". She qualified for the semi final but did not crack the Top 10.
It is a very porteño (from Buenos Aires) name. If you have this name in Argentina, you immediately think of tango. The lyrics of a famous tango say "Malena sings the tango like nobody else..." It is pronounced muh- LEH- nuh. Sweet name with a lot of personality.
It is a nice name. But such a pity it's one letter off melena- blood in the faeces. That changes everything for me.

There is an identical Serbian name, well, Slavic in general I think, but it's pronounced Muh-leh-nuh and has a different etymology - it means "little [girl]". Other similar Serbian names are Melena, Malina, Marena, Milina (all having different meanings).

It can be pronounced Muh-leen-uh. But my family pronounces it Muh-lane-uh.
This is my name. I used to not like it when I was really little, as I couldn't get those cool license plates with your name on them. But now I love my name. When people mispronounce it (which is probably all the time) I love correcting them, being that "Malena" is such an exotic name.
