महात्मा (Mahātmā) meaning
"great soul", derived from Sanskrit
महा (mahā) meaning "great" and
आत्मन् (ātman) meaning "soul, spirit, life". This title was given to, among others, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, also known as Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948).
