Contraction of Maddaleno.In literature, this is the name of the eponymous character from the poem Julian and Maddalo (1819) written by the English poet Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792-1822). In the poem, the philosophical Julian is based on himself, whilst the cynical Maddalo is based on the English poet Lord Byron (1788-1824).
