Meaning & History
Latinized form of Greek Λυγκεύς (Lynkeus), though technically Lygkeus is the correct spelling. The name is a more elaborate form of Lynkos (see Lyncus). In Greek mythology, Lynceus was the name of a king of Argos. In real life, this name was borne by the Greek writer Lynceus of Samos (3rd century BC).
