Listen here for the Flemish pronunciation of Lutgardis:https://youtu.be/Ioa7K1y26hw (in Dutch; the speaker is Flemish and the name is said at 0:02 and 0:26)
https://youtu.be/pTX7gjL6_wY (in Dutch; the speakers are Flemish and the name is said at 0:07 and 1:31)
https://youtu.be/p2jPZMwpmGI (in Dutch; the speaker is Dutch and the name is said at 1:59)Converted to IPA, it should be: /lʏt.'ɣɑr.dɪs/The priest in the last clip appears to pronounce the final syllable as /dəs/, but then again, he is Dutch.I am sure there are also Flemings that pronounce the first syllable as /lyt/, since that has been proven to be the case for Lutgard and Lutgarde (see the 'Comments' section of those entries). It's just that I haven't been able to find examples of that on YouTube so far - hopefully someday I will! :)
Lutgardis is still used in Belgium (particularly Flanders) and the Netherlands, though extremely more so in the former than in the latter:- https://www.meertens.knaw.nl/nvb/naam/is/Lutgardis (in Dutch; shows the prevalence of the name in the Netherlands in 2014)
- http://www.names.be/voornamen.html?met=Lutgardis&sort=beldesc (in Dutch; shows the prevalence of the name in Belgium in 2009)The significant difference in popularity between the two countries can probably be attributed to the medieval Flemish saint Lutgardis of Aywières (known in Dutch as Lutgardis van Tongeren). She was born in the Flemish town of Tongeren in 1182, and died in the Walloon town of Aywières (now Awirs) in 1246.- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lutgardis (in English; this is about the saint)There is one thing about the name that the two countries *do* have in common with each other: Lutgardis is much more common as an official name on birth certificates than as a name used in everyday life. By today's standards, Lutgardis is simply too old-fashioned, clunky and unwieldy for use in everyday life. Most bearers of the name will have it as a middle name (in honour of the saint), and those that don't, tend to go by a more "easygoing" variant of the name in daily life (such as Lutgarde).
