In Sweden, she was in all likelihood the personification of the winter solstice - called 'lussinatta' - that was later absorbed into the newer tradition of 'Luciadagen' (honouring the Catholic Saint Lucy of Syracuse). Subesequently used from circa 1700s as a variant of Lucia; it is not a common name today.
