Derived from Celtic lugu "light" (or from Proto-Celtic lukot "mouse") combined with Celtic rix "king." The first element of the name might also refer to the Celtic god Lugus or Lugh. Lugotorix was the name of a British chieftain who lived in the 54th century BC.
