There's no inherent problem with noun names, but this one is frankly more of a verb name in terms of how it's most often used, which opens up so many avenues for mockery it doesn't bear thinking about - and it's not an uncommon verb, at that. The word "Love" is used very frequently and very flippantly used in English - the meaning most people who like this name seem to be thinking of is something adjacent to the term "ai" in Japanese, but people say things like "I Love waffle fries" or "I Love when cats do that little wiggle" all the time, constantly. It's not profound, it's goddamn silly. Also, consider that the word "Love" is frequently used as a term of endearment. Like, really think about that. Think about the implications of that being your actual name, used by everyone. That's actually kind of demeaning, no? If I knew someone called Love I'd probably never be able to get their attention because I'd be too uncomfortable to say their name.
Love Marie Payawal Ongpauco-Escudero (born February 14, 1985), better known as Heart Evangelista, is a Filipina actress, TV host, singer, visual media artist, philanthropist, socialite, and currently serving as the first lady of the province of Sorsogon.
My first name is Love and I Love it (ha ha.) The only downside is people always making that joke. I think it’s a great name; I’ve got nothing but compliments for it and no teasing. No, you won’t be cursing your kid with this name, IDK what you’re all talking about! Name your kid Love!
Kinda silly as a first name, and some annoying people in school surely would make fun of you. I mean, I personally don't think this name is awful, but you might get teased, though.
I think it makes a wonderful middle name, but as a first sounds kinda awful. Ex:Charlotte Love Nelly Love Maia Love Luna Love (-good, lol)It also reminds me of Love from the show You.
Wouldn't use as a first name - it's cool for a middle name as long as the first name is normal. Ex: "Olivia Love" is okay, but if the first name is also very "out there" it becomes too ridiculous.

Okay so HUH? I can not stand names like Love, Thankful, Precious etc. Don't do this to a child who could get a cute name like Olivia!
I know 2 people who named their daughters "Lennon Love"... ugh, I really don't like that combo.Love is not a name for a baby, how about a nice alternative like Amanda which means "Beloved" or "To be loved" instead? There are many other names that mean Love or have Love in their meaning. Just PLEASE don't name your son or daughter Love.
I like the name “Love“. It has a beautiful meaning and it’s subtle. It’s not over the top. I would definitely use it as a first name! I mean, everyone uses it as a middle name why not a first name?

There are two kids we know that are named True and Love. Which makes True Love.
There's nothing wrong with the name Love, Love is my middle name so why are you people saying "in 2015 this many poor lil girls had the name Love". It's a cute middle name - you people need to stop hating.

Instead of this, try Amy, Cara, or Amanda, which all mean Loved or Beloved.
Okay, if you name your kid Love they are going to get teased. If you like the meaning, maybe you could try Amy because it means beloved. For now, there are other virtue names like Grace, Faith and Hope that are way more normal and less weird.
My beautiful six-year-old granddaughter’s middle name is Love and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

You guys killed this name in the comment section OUCH! My full name is Love James Lester and I'm a male. I was born in the city of brotherly Love aka Philly. I was born at 6 months 3 lbs 6 ounces and 2/3 Dr's said I was dead. Dr Love said he might have a shot. My blind grandfather gave my dad the nickname of Love, he said he felt Love in the air. I met my wife based on my name, she said " I want to see what cocky A hole put Love as his name on his dorm door". It's def a different name, I started using James Lester last 3 years when I got into real estate. A broker just told me it's all marketing now, and I'm sitting on gold with my real name. Would I win more people than I lose if I use Love Lester? I don't want to be a gimmick but it's on my birth certificate. P.S. I already know kids will turn my sign into Love MoLester.
I've always liked Love as a nickname for Lovella, but not as a full name in its own right! There are plenty of other names which mean "Love" and sound much more serious and professional. It's just not one of those words which works as a name in English.
Can this PLEASE not be a name?! Not only due to it being mega cheesy & ultra, ultra ridiculous but every time you go on the messageboard (I prefer to put the hyperlinks on by the way) and type "Love" it shows on the hyperlinks as an actual name. It's REALLY annoying. We get it, people love their children but does that mean they literally have to use the word "Love" as their name? Anyone named "Love" is just bound to get teased and I'm just thankful that this so called name isn't on the charts.

I thinks it's best as a middle name, but not really great for a first name.
Just want to add: My username no longer contains "Love" since I've changed it but I still hate this as a name nonetheless. XD.

Ok, I only viewed this jokingly since my username contains the word "Love", lol! Anyways, I DESPISE the use of the word "Love" as a first name or a middle name! Ew, it's so tacky.

This is also one of my niece's names, sister to Peace Alexandria :-) Her name is Love Isabella! It's a cute name. To expecting parents who're considering this name you should use it if you Love it. Don't let anyone sway you away from a name you Love.
To me, this is unacceptable as a given name, first OR middle. It makes me think of an uneducated mother thinking Love was her baby's name when her husband took her to bed to conceive a child, or 'make Love', and she thought he meant Love was her child's name.

Not exactly a good choice for a first name, but it would be very unique as a middle name.
I don't understand why people are making so many comments that naming someone Love would be bad because love is a common concept word. Where do you think so many of our names come from?! Why do you think there's a site like behindthename anyways? Most names came from common words for things and concepts at some point in history.
Love is one of the most beautiful concepts in the world. Whether it's platonic/familial/romantic, the idea that you would do absolutely anything for someone (perhaps even at the cost of yourself) is just... frankly, there are no words, so I'll stop trying to describe it.However, as a *name*? Sorry, it does not work. Hope, Faith, Patience, etc. Have carried on from Puritan times because they can function well as names. However, can you imagine someone saying, "I Love you, Love"?
I really like this name. Love has a very beautiful sound and meaning. I don't know understand why so many people are against it. People call their children Charity and Hope and Honour, so why not Love? It's far more important than all those other things. I would use Love as a middle name.

As someone said above, we name kids Hope and Faith and they sound respectable. So why does Love, the greatest theological virtue, sound so... ridiculous? My guess is because "Love" is used to mean so many other things. I think, to name a daughter after the virtue, I'd use Charity. That word is also misused of course, to mean simply giving money to a program - but at least it doesn't sound like something cute and flowery that a lot of people would laugh at (which is what happened, unfortunately, to the word "Love").I hope this comment is helpful somehow. (You wouldn't believe what useless things I've posted in the past....)
I don't know about this one; for me, it seems to be cheapening the word "love" (further). Also, while it has a good meaning, today's society is most likely not going to take it seriously (why? I have no idea). Skip this name and go for something else that has the meaning; Esmé, Amando/Amanda, Aimé/Aimée, Aimable, Amabel, and the like.
I think it's a good name, honestly. The greatest of the three Christian virtues. I mean, people name their kids Hope and Faith. Why not Love? I wouldn't mind naming my daughter this. Although I do think it works better as a nickname.
I think this is a fine name for a middle name, like many have said. But I've personally have not met anyone with this as their middle name. And I don't think I would give this name to my child, but it's a fine name all the same.
Come on people, we need to think outside the box. I think this name is very applicable. Just because we as English speaking people have developed an understanding of the meaning and usage of this word doesn't mean that this word is unsuitable as a name. I believe that this name would be very suitable, even in places where English is the main language, if it pronounced 'LOO-ve'.

This name belongs in the same category as Angel, Heaven, Nevaeh, Destiny, and the likes. It's very tacky, and if you absolutely must use it, I would recommend you to use it as a middle name. At least this one isn't a completely pompous name like Liberty, or a superstitious name like Destiny, and love is admittedly a beautiful thing. However, it just isn't one of those names that score credibility points for your daughter.
Okay. Imagine saying to someone "I'm Love Sarah Smith," or "My name's Love Toolin." And my favorite, "I'm Love Rivers." This is like naming your child or character Comfort or Unique. Besides, think about the alternate meaning, as in "make Love." It might not be as bad as a middle name, but it's still odd.
The main character of the "Principles of Love" series ("Principles of Love", "Piece, Love, and Happiness", & "Love From London"). The series is written by Emily Franklin.
No no no no. This really isn't a good name. Just think about it; Love Happy Angel what ever might sound a cute name to a toddler, but what if she becomes horrible bully, uses drugs and then kills someone or/and herself? Or what if she's horrible, mean, stupid person who hates everyone, even herself?Really, it's better to leave some words just words and not use them as names for your kids.
It could work on some people, but they would probably be teased or be constantly asked "No, really, what's your name?". Nice idea, not so nice results. It would work way better as a middle name.
Singer/actress Courtney Love was born Love Michelle Harrison.

Jennifer Love Hewitt is an actress who was in the T.V. show "Party of Five" and in many movies including "Garfield," "The Tuxedo," and "I Know What You Did Last Summer."
The middle name of "Love" has been in our family for at least four generations. I got it from my grandmother, who got it from her mother. I also found out it is the middle name of Elvis' mother.
