Louis Francis Albert Victor Nicholas Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma (born Prince Louis of Battenberg; 25 June 1900 – 27 August 1979) Lord Louis was the grandson of Queen Victoria and uncle to prince Philip of Greece (later known as the Duke of Edinburgh after he married the then future Queen Elizabeth II). Lord Louis Mountbatten was the last viceroy of India and commanded the British fleet during World War II. He died during a terrorist attack off the coast of Ireland that was perpetrated by the IRA in 1979. He is also the namesake for prince Louis of Cambridge who is the second son and third child to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
