Loretta is such an unusual name that at first it's hard to form an opinion about it. But I like it, I definitely like it. It sounds feminine, elegant and sophisticated, and I think it is a name that should be considered more, since I have honestly never heard that name even in books or movies. Loretta... yes, it's beautiful.
Loretta Goggi (b. 1950) is an Italian, singer, actress and TV host. Goggi is also an acclaimed singer and her records have always entered the Italian pop charts. She reached second place at the 1981 Festival Della Canzone Italiana with the song 'Maledetta Primavera', her biggest pop hit.
I always associate this name with 1970s Southern country and western singers. I have always liked the name :-) I was looking into some family history and I have discovered this name was fairly common in medieval England. One of my distant ancestors was Anglo-Norman noblewoman Loretta la Zouche born in 1205 and died in 1279, she was from the town of Ashby de la zouch in Leicestershire which took her family name.
I am a Loretta and in all my almost 40 years now, I have only met 1 other Loretta close to my age. It was in college at ISU. All others I've known were at least 20 years my elder.

This name is so cute and unique, I love it becaus it's not the kind of name you hear every day. The cutest nicknames are Etta and Lorrie, but no nickname is good too. The best combo is Loretta Belle.
"Sweet Loretta Modern thought she was a woman, but she was another man All the girls around her said "She's got it coming." But she gets it while she can Get back, get back, get back to where you once belonged Get back Loretta!" - "Get Back" by Paul McCartney Amusingly, John Lennon made up this variant of the lyrics: "Sweet Loretta Modern thought she was a cleaner, but she was a frying pan!" I've never heard of anyone with this name besides the song.
It's a pretty name. However, it sounds low-class, considering that it's the name of "coal miner's daughter" Loretta Lynn, and also because I always see it as the name of trashy women in books and movies.
Famous bearer: Loretta Lynn Morgan. She's better known as "Lorrie" Morgan. "Lorrie" was named after Loretta Lynn, and happens to be a country singer as well.
Another possible origin of this name I've seen is that it comes from the shrine of Loreto in Italy and has nothing to do with Lauretta. I'm not sure what to believe.
