I've heard the pronunciation 'LAWR-lie' with only two syllables.

The spelling is a potential problem for this name, depending on how you want to pronounce it. Some would argue that Lorelei is Lor-uh-lie, and others that it's Lor-uh-lee. And some people will think that Lorelai is pronounced Lor-uh-lay, and visa versa.
Either spelling is fine for me. I am 50/50 on them both. But...
For those of us who have watched every episode of The Gilmore Girls, we'll probably be steered subconsciously towards the alternative spelling Lorelai, pronounced as they do on the show, Lor-uh-lie.
