This name is beautiful. What does it matter that it rhymes with weasel, anyway? That certainly isn't the first thing I think when I hear this name, and besides, weasels are cool.
I think this is a lovely name. It makes me think of the character in the Sound of Music, and I grew up with that movie. It's unfortunate it has to rhyme with weasel.
This is a beautiful name, although not frequently used in Germany or Austria now. However, like the USA, they are going back to the old-fashioned names so this will probably gain in popularity. It is the nickname for Elisabeth.

Liesl is a character in the book "Fifth Business" by Canadian author Robertson Davies.
My sister's name is Liesl. I don't really find the name Liesl uncommon because I actually know 5 people with the name, and then I've seen 2 people called Liesl in movies, and then in the movie 'A Little Princess' the girl Sarah (who has my name) is played by a little girl called Liesl. I really think it is a beautiful name and my sister is really special so I think the name is special too.
Liesl was used as the name of the eldest von Trapp daughter in the movie "The Sound of Music". Liesl's character represented the real eldest daughter (who was in fact the second child, not the first) who was named Agathe.
