Meaning & History
The first element of this name is derived from the Lithuanian noun liaudis meaning "people, folk", which is etymologically related to the Germanic element leud meaning "people" (see Leopold and Leutwin). The second element is either derived from Lithuanian mantus meaning "intelligent" (see Daumantas) or from Lithuanian manta meaning "property, estate" as well as "wealth, riches, fortune".
