If I had been a boy I would have been called Leonard, after my mom’s favorite uncle. I ended up being a girl, so I didn’t end up with it, but I do like it, and would have been okay with being a Leonard had things turned out differently. This is a good name that can be used for all generations of men. Leonard the kindergartener, Leonard the college student, Leonard the bank manager, Leonard the elderly gentleman- the name works well at all stages of life.
My son's name is Leonard. Me and my wife wrote on a list many names excluding Leonard, but on my son's birthday I felt, Leonard is the correct name for my son and I do not know why and where this name comes in my mind. Now I can not imagine my son with some other name. :)
I love Leonard! It's old fashioned but it has great nick names like Leo and Lenny. I think it will age well and it's a hell of a lot better than the "trendy" names being used. Leonard means brave lion which is also really cool. I would use the name if I have a baby boy in the future.
I do love this name, its meaning is so strong and heroic- “brave lion” what an excellent name. The old English names are the best in my opinion ;) and Leonard has adorable nicknames like Leo and Leon for younger children too.
Sugar Ray Leonard the boxer, Leo or Lenny as a nickname, means lionhearted or brave, An old school name from the 1800's but now coming back into modern day society, This name is awesome.

I absolutely love this name. Ever since The Big Bang Theory, I've found it to have a certain appeal. If I ever have a son, I definitely want him to be named Leonard, with the nickname Leo. Lenny kind of ruins the name for me, because that is more associated with old men rather than the name itself.
I quite like this name. I would prefer it to be pronounced leo-nard than lennard, and I totally hate the nickname Lenny, but I do like the nickname Leo. :)
Also an Irish surname. I admit the sound isn't the nicest, but as a surname, it works with most names. The people I've met with this surname, including my fiance, are the most incredible people I've ever met. They've battled though everything. Truly amazing people. Stupidly strong, they survive through everything where other people would give up. They deserve the meaning of their surname. Strong? It will never cover it. Truly AMAZING people. My impression of Leonard as a surname is immense. I'd be proud to pass this surname onto my children. As for as a name. It's not terrible. It's not trendy, but it has a certain beauty, doesn't it? You cannot deny its strength.
I absolutely LOATHE the English pronunciation of this name. The name looks so nice, but when you hear someone say it I personally think it ruins it for me.
When I grow up, if I have a little boy I will name him Lynyrd. I think it would be cute. I personally dislike the name Leonard, but I like the spelling of Lynyrd after the band Lynyrd Skynyrd. I am from Mississippi, and Lynyrd Skynryd was a Southern Rock band, and I don't know anyone that doesn't know Sweet Home Alabama by heart. That's why I plan on naming my little boy (if I even have a boy) Lynyrd when I grow up.

I have no idea why but whenever I hear the name Leonard I burst out laughing. I know several other people that find this name oddly hysterical, so I would think twice before using it.
This is a very ugly name that would only fit an old man. Leonard Bernstein (1918-1989), arguably the best American composer, was originally named Lewis, but he had his name changed to Leonard when he was in his teens.
