Meaning & History

Lawalo is a figure in the oral tradition of the Keita dynasty, who claim descent from Lawalo as one of the sons of Bilal. Bilal was the muezzin of Islam's prophet Muhammad. However, historians generally believe that this claim is a later invention to increase the prestige of the royal family.
