In France, this would be an acceptable name. In English-speaking countries (especially the United States), unsuitable. The proper pronunciation ("Lo-RAWn") follows too closely to the feminine "Lauren," which would lead to merciless childhood mocking... not to mention a fairly "weak" name (proper pronunciation, again) in the professional world. Perhaps if you are of strong French heritage it would be acceptable and appropriate-- given you possess a French surname to pair. However, I find an English pronunciation, "Lawr-Ahnt," to be surprisingly handsome, and intelligently handsome.
Laurent is typically masculine as Clement, Vincent, and you can pronounce it by the same rhythm in English (LAWR-ənt). Lauren was also masculine but more and more females converted it. Besides, names ending with -ence are generally feminine, though Laurence is masculine in English.
