Variant form of Lavra (Λαύρα), which is the original (modern) Greek form of Laura. Lavra has fallen into disuse, however, which might possibly be because the association with lavra (the name for a type of monastery in Orthodox Christianity) had become too great. This allowed Laoura to become the dominant (i.e. main) Greek form of Laura today.
