My daughter is named this, pronounced like the Catholic hymn (we are not Catholic though). I think that the popularity figures are likely for Kyrie (1) when it’s pronounced kai as in kind and ree as in real. Anyway, it always takes adults some getting used to pronunciation-wise, but kids catch on quickly. She is annoyed at how often adults forget how to say it, but it’s so beautiful this way, it’s worth the effort! And her nickname is Kiki (kee kee).

Only an uncultured person would pronounce it with a long I. The phrase Kyrie eleison appears in too many prayers and hymns to get it wrong.

To the anonymous user, not everyone is Christian or has been to a church that sings hymns. (I haven’t.) It looks similar to the name Kylie, which is why someone would pronounce it Ky-ree. Not being exposed to Christian hymns doesn’t mean someone is uncultured.
