Kublai

Other spellings are Cubilei, Qubilei, Qubilai, Kublay, and the What does the Mongol name Kublai mean?
The name Khuvilah(It means to visualize,change,replicate,depict) in Traditional Mongolian Script. So in my opinion Khubilai means THE MAN WHO CAN VISUALIZE or THE MAN WHO CAN MAKE CHANGES. I hope my compatriots won’t throw a stone at me for my daring suggestion.

Also, traditionally it is not allowed to name a child by Khan’s name. It shows disrespect and disgrace to our ancestors. My mother’s family are descendants of Qasar and when my cousin wanted to name her child Temuujin she was scolded. So we don’t have names with Sr,Jr or First, Second, Third. Everyone should have his/her unique name and unique destiny.

I think the reason that “Kublai” or “Kubla” has remained untranslated is that people expect it to be Mongolian when it is Turkic. His grandfather Chinghiz Khan was half Turkic and half Mongolian and both languages were spoken in the family. In the Sakha Turkic language, which descends from the Turkic language spoken in the Turko-Mongol Empire, “Kuba” or “Kubla” means ‘swan’ considered a sacred bird, and also called “Kagan” (Khan) of the universe.

Another meaning is that it is related to the Goddess Cybele, whose origins are Anatolia, where her name was Kubileya.
