Meaning & History
Possibly derived from Greek κτῆσις (ktesis) meaning "acquisition, possession, property", itself from κτάομαι (ktaomai) meaning "to acquire, to procure for oneself" as well as "to possess", and either φωνή (phone) meaning "voice" or φῶς (phos) meaning "light". Alternatively, it could derive from the name of an ancient city, hellenized from Middle Persian *Tesifon.
