This name is unisex. I have seen it used often for members of all sexes. I've found that the spelling often changes whether the name looks more feminine or masculine. For example, Christian looks more masculine to me whilst Kristian appears more feminine to me. It is very easy to find nicknames as well e.g. Chris, Kris, Kristie, Krissy etc.

Varg Vikernes of Mayhem and Burzum was born Kristian.
A girl I go to school with is named Kristian. Her middle name is Leigh. I think Kristian is a pretty name, but I think it would be much better spelled Christian. I'd be worried no one would ever spell the poor girl's name right.
My sister is named Kristian. When you say the name people often think that it is a boy's name but I think that it's more of a girls name then a boys name. It has a soft tone to it, unlike most boy names.
Earthnut, please do not contribute information about usage in Slovenia for the names that are very rare there. Slovenes want to be fancy and they think it's better to give to a baby a name which is easier to pronounce for foreigners. So originally, Kristian isn't a Slovene name.

Girl name?! Wow! I never never NEVER heard this name for a girl. A lot of my friends have the name Kristian but hey, a girl? I just can believe that! I just saw that it is ONE girl in Sweden who has the name Kristian, poor girl. [noted -ed]
I used to have a friend named Kristian who was a girl. I always thought it was a pretty unusual name for a girl. To me Kristian doesn't sound feminine at all, it sounds very masculine.

Never knew it could be a girl's name. I love this beautiful name for a boy, but the problem is that in Denmark it is more than overused. I know so many people named Kristian or Christian, among them my brother, who I call Krisjang. And now we just had a new Danish prince named Christian so I'm afraid it will keep being that popular.
