Meaning & History
From Japanese 興 (kou) meaning "entertainment; pleasure; interest", 之 (no), a possessive marker, combined with 助 (suke) meaning "help, assistance". Other kanji combinations are also possible. A famous bearer was Konosuke Matsushita, a Japanese industrialist, the founder of Panasonic, a company based in the suburb of Kadoma, Osaka in Japan.
