I like this name. I also like the name Nikolai, which it is an abbreviation of. If I have a boy it is certainly a name I would consider. Just to add, I am English.
You state that "Kolya" sounds like a girl name because it ends in [a]."Kolya", along with most Russian boys pet names, ends in the sound [a]: Ivan>Vanya, Oleg>Olezhka, Mikhail>Misha, Aleksander>Alyosha/Sasha, Dimitry>Dima, Pavel>Pasha etc.
Many biblical names also rhyme with [a]: Isaiah, Adonijah, Jonah, Ezra, Shia, Elijah etc.Definitely not girls names to an educated ear.But since you obviously lack the culture needed to appreciate foreign names, I suggest that you start formulating your comments thusly: "I personally dislike XYZ because..." instead of "XYZ is an awful name".People who live in glass houses shouldn't be throwing stones: For your information, your own name "Taylor" was exclusively a boy's name not so long ago, before it became as over-used as Mary or John. Different strokes for different folks, as they say. And yes, my son's name is Kolya.
