Meaning & History
After Mount Kizkitza in the Basque town of Itsaso, which has an hermitage dedicated to Our Lady of Kizkitza. According to folk legend, the locals saw a light on Mount Kizkitza and they found the Virgin Mary there. They then decided to build a shrine in her honour in their village, but the Marian apparition kept happening at the top of the mountain at night. In the end, they had to build the shrine at the mountain.
