It is actually a Georgian form of Katherine, just like Ekaterine, not a form of Katayun for 100%. I'm actually Georgian and I know for sure. They're kinda spelt the same and that's why, but when people choose this name they think they are choosing a form of Kathrine, actually I have 5 or 6 relatives with this name.

This was the given name of Joseph Stalin's mother.
Ketevan is *not* the Georgian form of Katherine. That is incorrect. The actual Georgian form of Katherine is: Ekaterine, written in Georgian as ეკატერინე (literally Ek'at'erine). As for Ketevan, that name is actually of Persian origin - as many Georgian names are. It is ultimately derived from Katayun. See the entries for Katayun and Ketevan in the Submitted Names Database. This has also been discussed at the Name Facts message board: http://www.behindthename.com/bb/fact/452914 and http://www.behindthename.com/bb/fact/2977573 [noted -ed]
I just came across another useful link that explains how Ketevan is actually of Persian origin, and I would like to share that link as well (as a supplement to my previous comment):http://www.cais-soas.com/CAIS/Culture/iranian_elements_georgian.htm(Look for the paragraph under 'Proper names' that starts with "A large number of...")Another source that states the name's Persian origin is this Georgian-language website dedicated to Georgian given names:http://name.interes.ge/dreams.php?action=view&id=966&from=action=search|by=%E1%83%A5(the above link is the direct link to the website's entry for Ketevan).
