Meaning & History

Possibly from Ancient Greek κέρκος (kerkos) meaning "tail, penis". This was the name of the alleged husband of Sappho, Kerkylas of Andros, according to the Byzantine encyclopedia Suda. The name appears to be invented for comedic purposes and is not otherwise attested as a name.
