The original spellings of the names are Kay and Lynn so if you were to combine them then Kaylynn would be the original and Kaylyn the variant.
Or you could use the English pronunciation of the Irish word Cailin.
Just like Caitlin is the original (from the Irish name, English pronunciation) and another original could be Katelynn because it is simply Kate plus Lynn in their original spellings.
So you would have two different etymologies for the names.

This name sounds quite immature and trashy. It doesn't age very well, nor does it look good on a resume. Honestly, I'd rather give my child an overused name that still ages well like Olivia or Emily than give her a name like this.

Ughhhh. Im so tired of seeing names like this. The spelling of this made up name is an eyesore. Too many y's and the double n looks so strange and unbalanced... And that's not even getting into the way the name sounds. "Kaylynn" and its never ending variants are just a combination of the super trendy prefix "Kay" found in equally trashy names such as Kayla and kaylee, and the suffix lyn, which is tacked onto every other name these days. No matter how you spell it, it's bound to look and sound extremely childish, over trendy, modern, and pretty darn trashy. I remember there was this woman somewhere I went who kept calling out to her daughter who had this name (no idea how she spelled it) as if she was proud of it. The more she said it, the more I wanted to vomit. When you name your kids things like this, chances are you won't get a positive reaction from the public, whether they say anything or not.

There are just way too many names coming out that sound like this one. They are starting to run together. Aidan, Jaylynn, Jayden, Kayden, Brayden, etc.
