Meaning & History
Derived from German Kapital or Russian капитал (kapital), which both mean "capital, asset". It is a reference to the three-volume book Das Kapital (1867-1894) written by the German philosopher and political economist Karl Marx (1818-1883).This name was created by Communist parents who were eager to reject traditional names. It was (and still is) regularly conflated with the older and more traditional name Kapitolina.Notable bearers of this name include the Russian singer Kapitalina Lazarenko (1925-2007) and the Serbo-Russian actress Kapitalina Erić (1919-2009). She was born in Siberia to a Serbian father and a Russian mother, but moved to Serbia as a baby, where she grew up.
