Kamala Harris, the current Vice President of the United States and the Democratic Party's presidential candidate for the 2024 United States presidential election, has lost to Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States and the Republican Party's presidential candidate! The latter will return to the White House as the 47th President of the United States on January 20, 2025!
I think it's interesting how names like this are more unisex in the countries they are most commonly used in, while where I live in the USA, it is much more feminine. I have used this name for a male character, although I do know it is still more commonly used for women even in places like India, Nepal, and Bangladesh, despite the name being more unisex there.
All this time I thought it was pronounced ka mall a with emphasis on the middle syllable but apparently Kamala Harris pronounces every syllable with equal stress ka ma la according to her nieces.

Actually, Harris's nieces described it as being like saying the English word "comma" first, then adding the "la" at the end. In "comma", the first syllable is emphasized (KAH-ma), so I believe then Kamala Harris pronounces the name KAH-ma-la, first syllable emphasized.

Kamala Harris bears this name, vice president of the United States. The name also means horrible in Finnish.
Kamala Nandiwadal is one of the main characters on Never Have I Ever. She is Devi's older cousin from India who is getting her PhD from Caltech as a biologist. She is portrayed by Richa Moorjani.
This name is not Finnish. Although the same spelling in Finnish means 'horrible', doesn't mean it keeps the same meaning in different languages with the same spelling. For example, pain in French means bread, and in English, pain means the suffering after getting injured or sick. They both have the same spelling, but have totally different meanings.

Kamala Devi (October 8,1933 – May 15, 2021) was an actress of Indian and British parentage, best known for her roles in the 1960s opposite her then-husband, Chuck Connors.
Kamala Devi Harris, 49th Vice President of the United States. Her late mother was an Indian-American cancer researcher from the modern-day Tamil Nadu province of India, and her still-living father is a Jamaican economist. Just prior to assuming the office of Vice President, she was a U.S. Senator from California. Before that, she was the Attorney General of California and the District Attorney of San Francisco. As for those of you who downvoted this name and left negative, spiteful comments purely because you dislike the most famous bearer of the name and not for its actual meaning in Sanskrit (lotus, flower), you need to know something:A website that catalogs names isn't the place to air your personal grievances against political figures, and doing so is petty and childish, not to mention hurtful to ordinary people who share their names. It's no surprise most of you chose to remain anonymous when posting your shameful comments.
Kamala Harris fits the meaning in Finnish PERFECTLY. (It means "horrible" or "atrocious")

What does that even mean? The meaning is "lotus, pale red". I don't see how any would apply to a person.

Okay so stop making this name bad because of Kamala Harris. Yes I am a Biden Harris supporter and I'm not saying this because I want you to agree with me because it's over. They won. I think this name is beautiful and it has nothing to do with Kamala Harris.
The name Kamal reminds me of the word Camel (in English and Gamal in Hebrew). And the root KML in Hebrew means "to wither". Perhaps users of this name might add an additional middle name.
This name is shared by Senator Kamala Devi Harris, California's 32nd Attorney General and, as of 2018, one of California's two Senators. She was the first African-American woman to serve as Attorney General in California.
Kamala Khan is the fourth bearer of the superhero identity Ms. Marvel, in the comic book of the same title. She is a first generation Pakistani-American and the first Muslim superhero to headline her own series.
Also means "terrible" in Finnish (this, however, has nothing to do with the etymological history of this particular name).

This name is known as 'peace'. The great Goddess Kamala is known as the bestower of peace. Perhaps the meaning 'red' comes from the red Hindu bindi mark on forehead (third-eye) between the eyebrows, which signifies peace and tranqulity for mortals. Some people say that 'Kamala' means lotus, but lotus is known as 'Padme', 'Padmini', 'Kumudini' (night lotus), and 'Alapadme' (full lotus). So the colour red, the lotus, and peace would all be aspects of a Goddess, so all would apply, yet there is room for various interpretations which is the beauty of Sanskrit words.
