This name makes me think of the Ukrainian folk song "Oy u luzi chervona Kalyna".
Never give your child this name. I have to live with it. Don’t make them suffer too.
Another beautiful spelling of its sister name 'Kalina'.
Kalyna means "guelder rose (species Viburnum opulus)" in Ukrainian. One of the national flowers of Ukraine is Viburnum (along with the Cherry and the Sunflower).Source: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floral_emblem
As someone who is named Kalyna, I know the annoyance of constantly having to correct misspellings and mispronunciations. For any other Kalyna´s, try and find a nickname to avoid this. Ideas: Lyn (mine), Lynn, Kal, Kali, Alyn, Ali, Lya, Alyna, Kay, Kayla, Lyna, Lyan.
This name is related (or I would think so) to the Polish translation, Kalina. [noted -ed]
It is very uncommon name, hardly ever used in Ukraine despite the fact than Kalyna (Viburnum opulus) actually is symbol of country.
"Kalynka" is often used as a diminutive of Kalyna.
Kalyna has great significance in Ukrainian folklore and has come to symbolize Ukraine itself. It has been seen also as representing a young and beautiful maiden, and her innocence. Young women used to plant the Kalyna on the grave of Cossack warriors fallen in battle.
Pronounced Ka-lin-na.
