Kalpana

Today marks 20 years since the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster, which took 7 lives which includes Kalpana Chawla. Kalpana was the first Indian woman in space. After she died in the disaster, she was posthumously awarded the Congressional Space Medal of Honor. The other people who died were Rick Husband, William McCool, Michael Anderson, David Brown, Laurel Clark, and Ilan Ramon. May they rest in peace, for their legacy will live on forever ❤.

Kalpana Chakma is a human rights activist and feminist from Bangladesh who held the position of Organizing Secretary of the Hill Women's Federation. She and her two brothers were abducted on 12 June 1996 from her home at Lallyaghona village allegedly by the members of the Bangladesh Army. Kalpana Chakma is still missing. No one has been tried for her disappearance. She is presumed to have been killed after her abduction.

Kalpana Lajmi (1954–2018) was an Indian film director, producer and screenwriter. Lajmi was an independent filmmaker working more on realistic, low-budget films, which are known in India as parallel cinema. Her films were often woman-oriented. She had been for a longtime manager with famous Assamese/Hindi/Bengali/English singer/lyricist/writer/film-maker Bhupen Hazarika.

Kalpana Saroj is a female Indian entrepreneur and a Tedx speaker. She is the Chairperson of Kamani Tubes in Mumbai, India. Described as the original "Slumdog Millionaire", she bought the distressed assets of Kamani Tubes Company and successfully steered the company back to profits.

Kalpana Dash (7 July 1966 - 23 May 2019) was an Indian lawyer and mountaineer. She was the first Odia mountaineer to scale Mount Everest. She scaled Mount Everest on 21 May 2008, along with a team of five members from the United States, Canada and Nepal.

Kalpana Chawla was the first Indian-born woman to make it into space. I think it is a beautiful name!
