Kali is the patron goddess of the Roma, the largest Indian diaspora in the world. In predominately Catholic countries, she is disguised as "Saint" Kali-Sara.
I'm American, when I see the spelling of Kali, I would pronounce it Kah-li or Cali. I've never associated it with Kayleigh, Kaylee, Kayley, only because their is nothing after the A, indicating a "long" A sound such as a Y or E as in my middle name Rae, but my last name is Kane as in cane or rhymes with rain. That is the great thing though, you could have the name Banana and pronounce it Baynaynay. Awesome name, I would definitely name a female child Kali yet pronounce it like Cali!
I'm an old Kali, 42, and honestly if you are going to name your kid Kali pronounce it Kah-lee. If not, spell it differently. There are numerous versions available. For people who are challenged by two-syllable names I tend to explain the pronunciation like this: Like Mohammad Ali... with a K.
The only Kali I ever knew was a boy. I must say that I much prefer this name on males.

Very nice name with a cool namesake. It's a shame that Hollywood has gotten their facts all wrong about Kali, making ignorant people think that she's evil.
Kali pronounced as Kah-Lee is the name of the Hindu goddess. The same spelling of Kali but pronounced like the name Callie is also Sanskrit name, but means maiden or bud, my mom claims that it also means energy. (Callie is Greek meaning beautiful).

My name is Kali, and I am haughtily proud of its powerful origins. However, it IRKS me when people use it as an urbanized form of the name Kaleigh, or pronounce it just. Wrong. I suppose you can pronounce it however you choose, but not before I contribute my two cents. As you have probably already read, Kali is the wife and destructive balance to Shiva, creating shakti. So, if you're using THAT NAME, then you should do as the Hindus do, and pronounce it KAH-lee. KAH like AAH the sound you make when the doctor tells you to open your mouth. But I'm not Kali, so you can do whatever you please and I can't do anything about it. But OH! I love my name so much. I can tell you're jealous.

I'm NEVER gonna think of the name Kali as 'dark' or 'sinister' due to my friend Kali (Kay-lee) being happy, bouncy and extremely huggy.I have no problem with other pronunciations of 'Kali' because it all really depends on how you wanted it to be said.
I love this name, especially because of its dark meaning. I would have loved to name a child this, but the husband disagreed. So, I named one of my min pins this pronounced KAH-lee. Unfortunately, everyone seemed to pronounce it like Cali, the abbreviation for California.

Love the sound, look and meaning of this name. It's so great. :)
Well, my name's Kali and I'm proud of it! I don't really know what was going through my mom's head when she picked Kali, but I sure am glad I got such an unique name!
The name Kali is the name of an Hindu goddess who was thought to be a vampire who drinks the blood of animals only and protects her people from demons by carrying a sickel sword that she kills them with.

I love the dark feel of the name. Sorry, I'm kinda obsessed with dark- or evil-sounding names. I think it should be both feminine and masculine, though. But that's just my opinion. The goddess Kali is fierce and destructive. Her name also means "Dark Female". Her worship is associated with skulls, cemeteries, and blood. She is black and gaunt, with an azure face streaked with yellow, and her gaze is considered ferocious. Her hair is shown as unkempt or splayed, and is sometimes braided with serpents. Her power is originative and destructive. The weapons or head of a demon she is usually seen holding symbolize this. No, I am not Hindu.
A more beautiful variation of the name 'Kali' is 'Kaliyani' or you may also use 'Kaliya.' Kaliyani is a ancient and medieval female name that is not so popular in India at this time.
