I LOVE THIS NAME! This is my kid brother's name and it sounds so classy and cool! He loves to surf while this name means “ocean” so it fits him perfectly! When my parents named him, it wasn’t that common but as he got older it started getting more common! Probably because it’s such a great name!
It's such a beautiful name - I have a friend who goes by Kai. It's just so pretty and mysterious.

In the Hawaiian language, in addition to Kai (meaning Sea Water, as opposed to Wai meaning Fresh Water) being a very popular "Stand Alone" name (primarily for males, but also for females), it is also often used as an abbreviated name or "Nickname" for other traditional Hawaiian names, such as:Males- Kainoa, Kaikona, & Kaipo Females- Kailani, & Kaiwana.

I'm in love with the name Kai. It's just extremely difficult to find a middle name for it! My favorite right now is Kai Monroe. I always try to match first names with a middle name that matches that culture, but most Hawaiian names have 'k's' in them, so they never really sound good together.
I think it's a great nickname for Kyle or Kylie but I think it's too short to be an independent name.

When I hear the name Kai, I think of the character Kai Hiwatari in Beyblade. It doesn't put me off the name at all. I love the sound and meaning of Kai. I think Kai is very masculine and suits boys perfectly. Hawaiian names are so calm and peaceful and beautiful in my opinion. ^-^

Unfortunately, whenever I think of the name Kai, I think of Kai Hiwatari from the first three seasons of the Japanese Anime called Beyblade. He may have been cold with people he didn't trust, but underneath he really did have a caring heart. He's actually my favorite character from the show and I ended up loving the name Kai because of him.

Kai can also be used as a nickname for the Hawaiian girl's name Kailani (or other names beginning with Kai-).
Kai is my nickname. I think it's an awesome name. My friend gave me the name when we were teenagers, he hated my name Erica so he thought Kai was cool not too girly, different, sexy, and fun and it fits me just right.
It sounds like a good name for a dog, but it seems like more of a dog's name than a person's name (unless Kai is short for something). I usually don't like one-syllable names, but of all the one syllable names, this is one of the better ones, in my opinion.
