I prefer this as a surname. It's not terrible as a first name, but it just sounds so dull and almost dreary, as if the parents weren't really all that excited about having a child in the first place as much as they were about the prospect of bringing an extention of their ego into this world, thus the dull and masculine name that makes it sound like the parents would rather have him fulfill some crappy gender roles than do what he would do himself if he didn't get his parents' morbid values shoved down his throat. I hope you get my point.
Not really a famous bearer, but Joyce Carol Oates wrote a story called We Were the Mulvaneys, and the narrator is named Judd Mulvaney. In that case, Judd is short for Judson.
